The Independence Police Department was instituted in 1864 by a City Council decree. The Independence Police Department's mission is to ensure the security and safety of life and property for the citizens through professional and vigilant enforcement of the law; endeavoring to have the law equally applied to all.
The Independence Police Department serves the City of Independence with ten certified officers, one certified K9 officer, one part-time officer, two reserve officers, and an administrative secretary.
The department is currently led by Chief of Police Dustin Dallenbach, who has been serving as Chief since June 2016.
July 1, 2015 the City of Independence implemented our Code Enforcement Officer, Brian Lau. Officer Lau has been enforcing city ordinances city wide. Should you have questions about the city ordinance please check the Code of Ordinances page or call us with your questions or concerns.
