German POWs in America during WWII

Tuesday, March 13, 2018

Steve King, from the Camp Algona POW Museum, tells forgotten stories in a presentation at IPL.

German prisoners provided important labor in the fields and factories of Iowa during WWII. Their story and that of their captors is largely untold. Steve King, from the Camp Algona POW Museum, will begin to peel back the layers of this often forgotten story in a presentation at the Independence Public Library.

This presentation is part of the library’s One Book One Independence (OBOI) programming featuring Stars Over Clear Lake by Loretta Ellsworth. King’s presentation, free and open to the public, will be in the Community Room at the library beginning at 6:30 pm. For more information about this and other OBOI programs please click here or contact the library staff by phone at 319-334-2470 or by email at iplprograms@gmail.com.
