Barn quilts are about as Iowan as corn and pork tenderloins, but they have a secret history that many residents may be unaware of. Join Danny Steiber, informally known as “The Barn Quilt Guy,” at the Independence Public Library on October 16th beginning at 6:30 pm for his multi-media presentation. As the 350 images appear on-screen, Steiber explains the history of the Underground Railroad Movement and the development of barn quilts, fifteen of which were actually used as codes to help escaping slaves along the Underground Railroad during the 19th century. For more information please contact the library at 319-334-2470 or email@example.com.
