Private Swim Lessons
Private Swim Lessons are available for any skill level and any age who prefer an 1-on-1 teaching atmosphere. Separate from group lessons, they are based on instructor availability and may be set up at avilable times determined by the Pool Manager. The list of Independence Aquatic Center Lifeguards willing and available to teach Private Swim Lessons is available for the public to pick up in hard copy from the Independence Aquatic Center or the Falcon Civic Center. The list will contain contact numbers and some general background information on each instructor. We can email the list to directly to you, but will not be posting the list here or on Facebook. You may choose a Private Swim Lesson Instructor from that list, contact the instructor directly and schedule the lessons. Once your 1st lesson is scheduled, you will need to pay a one time $15 per (10- 1/2 hour lessons) to the Independence Aquatic Center. This $15 fee covers the student's pool usage time. Private Swim Lesson Instructors will determine their own fees and you will need to pay the Instructor directly. Please direct questions about Privates to the Pool Manager @ 319-334-7464.Due to safety concerns and liability issues: ONLY the child/ adult physically in the water taking a lesson with a guard is allowed in the water during ALL swim lessons unless guards are in chairs guarding the pool. Group Swim Lesson Instruction
At the Independence Aquatic Center, our certified lifeguards teach American Red Cross Swim Lessons. Parents: download the American Red Cross Swim App and see what your child will learn and the skills needed to advance to the next level. We are working very hard with the help of our American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor to make the Group Swim Lessons taught at the Independence Aquatic Center the best across Iowa. Thank you in advance while we work hard to reach these goals. It is our hope that participants meet with success early and often in our swim lesson programs and develop a love and respect for the water. In case lessons need to be cancelled for the day due to weather, we have scheduled 2 make-up dates if needed. The Aquatics Staff will do everything possible to see that at least 8 lessons are held, but we cannot control the weather.
We are working to offer the REMIND APP link as a valuable tool to use to communicate cancellations to those registered for group swim lessons. We will keep you posted. Thank you.
Infant & Toddler Lessons (Child in water w/ parent)

Infant & Toddler (Parent w/ Child) Classes are designed for children 1 year- 3 years old/ Parents must accompany their child in the water/ These classes are designed to orientate the child to the water, develop basic swimming skills, and to help parents learn how to work with their child in the water. NEW Scheduling: Classes will be held for 1 week (M-F) for 1/2hour each day and makeups (if needed) will be the following Monday/ 15 Students (w/ Parents, so 30 in the water each session) max limit
ONLY the child physically in the lesson is allowed in the water during group lessons!! This is a safety concern as we will not have guards on chairs during group lessons. The Aquatic Center will CLOSE at 5:30pm and reopen at 6:30pm (W-F) during the weeks we have evening group lessons.

Pre-School Classes are designed for children 4 to 5 years old/ Pre-School Classes are designed to orientate the child to water, develop basic swimming skills, and become more confident and independence in the water/ Parents are not allowed in the water during class times, however they may sit near the class for the child's comfort and security/ 10 Students (30 in the water each session) max limit in each group/ NEW Scheduling: Classes will be held for 1 week (M-F) for 1/2hour each day and makeups (if needed) will be the following Monday

School Age Lessons are designed for children who have passed Pre-School Lessons and are 6 years of age and older. Students progress through the levels at their own pace, mastering the skills in one level before advancing to the next. These lessons are designed to give students a positive learning experience.
Fee: $35 per child/10 students max limit per time/ level/ Classes are 45minutes/ M- F/ Advanced registration is required for all classes/ Registration is accepted at the Falcon Civic Center ONLY.

Level Descriptions
- LEVEL 1: Introduction to Water Skills: Students will learn how to feel comfortable in the water and safely enjoy it. This level is for those who are least 6 years of age and have passed Pre-School Lessons.
- LEVEL 2: Fundamentals of Aquatic Skills: Children will learn basic swimming skills. This level is for those who have passes Level 1.
- LEVEL 3: Stroke Development: Additional guided practice will help students improve their skills. This level is for those who have passed Level 2.
- LEVEL 4: Stroke Improvement: Kids will gain confidence during swim lessons, improve their stroke and gain additional aquatic skills. This level is for those who have passed Level 3.
- LEVEL 5: Stroke Refinement: Guidance allows kids to refine their strokes and become more efficient swimmers. This level is for those who have passed Level 4.
- LEVEL 6: Swimming & Skill Proficiency: Students will learn to swim with ease and efficiency, and gain the ability to swim smoothly over greater distances. Swimmers will also have the option to participate in more advanced courses. This level is for those who have passed Level 5.
