4. How do I acquire a liquor license?: To acquire a Liquor License, contact the Iowa Department of Commerce Alcoholic Beverages Division (ABD) at 515-281-7386. Once the online application has been completed, submitted to your insurance carrier for review and processing, the City will be notified via electronic transmission. Then the City can log on to the website, print the application, and place it on the Council agenda for consideration of approval. For more information, please visit the ABD Website.

5. How do I report a nuisance?: The City of Independence has Nuisance and Abatement procedures, City Code of Ordinances in Chapter 50. Upon review of the code and you feel a nuisance is present or exists, you may contact City Hall to speak with either the City Manager, Police Department or the Building Inspector. Upon their research, review and assessment proper procedures will be implemented to address the nuisance according to City Code.

6. How do I obtain a copy of a Birth/Death/Marriage Certificate?: These documents may be obtained by visiting or contacting the Buchanan County Recorder's Office at 319-334-4259 or by visiting their office at:

How do I find out information about my assessed value and property taxes?: You will learn about property valuations and assessed values by contacting the Buchanan County Assessor's Office at 319-334-2706. For property taxes and related information, please contact the Buchanan County Treasurer's Office at 319-334-4340.

8. How do I file a complaint about a City employee?: To file a complaint about a City employee, contact the City Manager at 319-334-2780 during regular office hours between Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
